“Maison au Coin is a superbly renovated, traditional French house” Maison au Coin is a superbly renovated, traditional French house. It is situated in a small, hill top village called Puyguilhem, which is about 7km from the nearest town with supermarket, Sigulès. The new bathrooms are all finished to a very high spec and all beds are large and very comfortable. Puyguilhem is very quiet and peaceful. The views from the house are amazing and if you are interested in bird-watching, there are plenty to see. We happily recommend the Maison au Coin to anyone looking for a truly relaxing holiday. Fantastic!

“Welcoming, relaxing and comfortable house in beautiful surroundings” We were a group of eight, comprising two grandparents, our daughter and son in law and their two children, ages six and four. We all had a wonderful holiday in this lovely house at Pontarnaud. From the moment of opening the front door we felt welcomed and comfortable. The generous 'food parcel' gift of bread, cheese, wine, eggs etc was much appreciated. The house is very spacious, stylish and clean and the gardens and patio area are a delight: secluded and very well looked after. The pool is pristine and was enjoyed by the whole family every day. The surrounding area is beautiful and I think maybe a little quieter in High Summer than the Southern Dordogne. We found plenty to do. Brantome is a beautiful little town with many places to eat, some overlooking the river and family canoeing seemed very popular. We also visited even more beautiful St Jean de Cole and the castle at Bordeilles, which was a great hit with our grandchildren. However the house at Pontarnaud was so nice we were often happy to stay put! The owner always responded promptly to emails when booking and prior to the holiday sent very detailed and helpful information about the property and surrounding area. Thank you to the James family for their hospitality. We would not hesitate to recommend this property.

Dordogne holidays

This picturesque part of southern France is the epitome of laid-back rural life. Lush, green meadows, stone built houses, grand châteaus and sprawling vineyards cover this area, and many have likened it to a sunnier, larger version of the Cotswolds in the UK. The landscape is steeped in history: explore prehistoric caves, 12th century fortresses and much, much more.

So if it's a taste of traditional France you're looking for, why not book a rental in the Dordogne? Choose from cottages, villas, apartments and, of course, gorgeous French gîtes.

A rich history

There are so many fascinating historical places of interest in the Dordogne, it's impossible to list them all here. But to get you started, highlights include the painted caves in Lascaux. Although the original caves are no longer open to the public, the replica caves are an impressive sight indeed. Visit the Cave of Font-de-Gaume to see the ancient engravings and paintings or ride the electric train through the caves at Rouffignac.

If you want to get your children interested in French history, you'll find plenty of opportunities in the Dordogne. Head to Les Villages Bournat where you'll discover a working watermill, walnut press, fairground rides, wood carving, pottery making and dressing up. At Chateau de Bridoire, watch a jousting display or even have a go a firing a crossbow! And at Vezac, navigate your way through the maze of sculpted hedges and flowers. There's a children's play area and café on site, too.

Food & wine

Whether you're buying fresh bread from the local bakery or dining out in an elegant restaurant, you're in for a taste sensation. Specialites include cassoulet and confit de canard, and local produce such as ceps, figs and chestnuts, will leave you wanting more. One of the best things about booking a self-catering rental in the Dordogne is having your own kitchen where you can recreate French recipes using local produce. There are hundreds of markets taking place all over the region. Salat market is one of the biggest and runs on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Visit La Truffe Sarladaise in Vezac where you can buy walnuts, truffles, wine and more. Speaking of wine, a visit to the Dordogne isn't complete without a vineyard tour and there are many excellent options here.

LANQUAIS Lamour Lanquais Holiday Gite NEW
Irritated? Tired? Come and relax in this wonderful and quiet gite

I should not write this review as I would keep this place as a secret. But Michael and Kim deserve to be known, so i'll write it anyway. They are the most welcoming and caring of guests and will help you if you have any trouble during your stay. The house is nice and well equipped and the pool, seriously, it's better in reality than it looks on the pictures (a rare experience in life...). We had a wonderful two weeks and would love to make it three next time we visit! We definitely recommend it. Important points for visitors: bedlinen and towels are furnished, cleanliness is perfect.see more
Charming 4 star cottage near Montignac with large private pool & WIFI.
Enchanting Cottage

My husband and I have just returned from the perfect week staying at this beautiful cottage located on the outskirts of Thonac. The cottage is set within easy walking distance of the village and is surrounded by breath taking countryside. The cottage itself was immaculately clean and very comfortable, with lovely, well maintained gardens and a surprisingly large swimming pool. This is the perfect place to relax in peace and quiet, or to explore the area as we did on our bikes. We spent most days riding around the quiet country roads, exploring the stunning towns and hamlets of the region. The town of Montignac is a short drive away and has some really nice cafes and restaurants. There are a couple of restaurants in Thonac, however during our stay, Le Boidicou was closed and Hotel Archambeau was fully booked. I would advise booking a table before your trip to avoid disappointment. Thank you so much Cat and Steve (and Bonnie) for letting us stay at your beautiful cottage and thank you for being the perfect hosts. Hope to see you again sometime in 2023!see more

The best holiday property we have ever stayed in!!!

We own a property management and rental business in Spain, and think we know a thing or two as to what makes a great holiday home. The fact that we have been renting either one of Tracey's two wonderful houses for the past ten years should speak volumes. Acabanes is extremely well suited to both for summer and autumn rentals, and is perfect both for large and small holiday groups. The level and quality of the properties equipment is beyond exceptional, and caters for every need from baby equipment to mountain bikes!!! We travel with two golden retrievers who revel in the large fenced garden, and wonderful vineyard walks a short distance from the house. We enjoy cooking at home and the kitchen is possibly the best equipped I have ever found in a rental property, however if you prefer to venture out there are numerous restaurants within a short drive. Wine lovers will love the local wineries, many of whom welcome visitors with open arms and offer free wine tastings and vineyard tours, however you may find it difficult to drag your family away from this beautiful house. Tracey is a true professional. From initial contact to departure information she has everything covered, and is always on hand should you require assistance or need any local information.see more

Authentic House Périgord charm & tranquility
Perfect stay in the Valley of Castles!

Great old house quietly situated in the little town of St Vincent de Crosse near Beynac. Thibaulat is a very helpful host who looked after everything we needed. Lots of places to sit outside - at the house, on the upper virewpoint or at the pool. Nice big sized rooms. Very close to so many castles, to the market in Salat and just an hour to Bergerac.see more
