A unique country cottage, steeped in history, with links to the Plantagenet Kings of England! Use of the entire house and grounds - our cottage is hidden away, surrounded by a big beautiful garden that overlooks the Eastwell Manor Country Estate and has a good sized heated outdoor pool area. Everyone falls in love with Plantagenet Cottage - it's been newly refurbished, is spacious, very private & relaxing with a certain English charm & character. With the beautiful Kent countryside & numerous things for all to do nearby, it makes this a perfect getaway.
Plantagenet Cottage dates back to the 16th Century and was built by a natural son of King Richard III [the last Plantagenet King of England - the one they found under the car park in Leicester more recently] - so that alone is pretty special. We call one of the bedrooms "Richard's Room" - that has a Kingsize bed in it. The other two bedrooms can be configured as either 1 x SuperKing or 2 x Singles. There are some books and an old transcript describing the History at the cottage. The tomb of the illegitimate heir, our Richard Plantagenet still lies in the ruins of nearby St Mary's church of Eastwell which makes for a nice visit.
Guest Access:
You will have exclusive use of the entire detached property and grounds. This consists of a driveway for two cars, access to a garage space, the large garden and exterior above ground heated swimming pool. Inside the property boasts a handmade wooden kitchen, office space, large living / dinning area with vaulted ceiling and inglenook fireplace. There is a walk in storage cupboard, a bathroom, hallway, porch with a historic arched door and then the three luxurious bedrooms [bed linen and towels are provided].
There are no other properties or people at the site as we are hidden from the road - there are neighbours about 40 meters away on the outskirts of the village.
Interaction with Guests
We are always contactable for any help or advice we can offer before and during your stay. We can offer a meet & greet service if requested at small extra charge. We give detailed arrival instructions & there is a welcome pack with lots of information for our guests.
The cottage is tucked away in a very unique and secluded spot, so offers privacy but is still within easy reach of local amenities. It is nestled on the edge of a small village called Boughton Aluph which surrounds a central cricket green and traditional Kentish pub which are a short stroll away. Our property overlooks the picturesque sheep filled grounds of the Eastwell Manor Estate & Hotel which can be seen in the distance [which itself boasts fine dining, a spa, golf course, indoor pool and a huge lake]. Further afield there's the practicalities of the thriving town of Ashford, also the lovely historic city of Canterbury, and the nature filled South Downs with many a traditional Kentish country pub and an abundance of cycling trails at nearby Kingswood and many stunning walks. The seaside towns of Whitstable, Rye, Herne Bay and the sandy beaches at Camber are all near enough for day trips, as is central London.
Ashford is the nearest main town. It has the high speed train into London Kings Cross in just 27 minutes! And the Eurotunnel linking to Europe. We are also close for transit through the ferry ports. There are two motorways linking the area to other parts of the UK and local bus services in the immediate area. Having a car is recommended - although many people who want to chill and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city come here and end up not wanting to go anywhere !
Other Things to Note:
There is underfloor heating to the main stone floor, there is Netflix and Amazon Prime on the Smart TV as well as BBC I-player / ITV Hub etc. There are also network ports in each room. The bathroom has a new combi boiler so you'll never run out of hot water. During summer season the pool is kept at 29 degrees C. Pool is closed for winter. Exact dates are weather dependent.
