Located in the heart of Corsewall Estate in south west Scotland, surrounded by historic woodland and overlooking an extensive lawns and views onto the old kitchen garden, this recently and extensively restored self catering cottage is an ideal base for couples or families to explore Galloway and south west Scotland.
The front door of this classic 'gingerbread box' luxury holiday cottage leads to an entrance hall off which is a large open plan sitting room to the left, to the right a double bedroom with king size bed and en-suite shower room. Also off the entrance hall is the traditional staircase leading up to two further bedrooms and bathroom on the first floor. The kitchen and dining area is off the sitting room and the kitchen has its own entrance and vestibule from the private car parking area.
The first-floor accommodation consists of one double bedroom which can either be arranged as a twin or a super-king, whilst across the landing there is a further single bedroom. Off the landing is the house bathroom.
Oil fired central heating and a log burning stove in the sitting room combined with huge amounts of insulation make this a very warm and cosy home.
Home Farm Cottage has its own private patio garden area to the rear, with garden furniture, large log store and bike shed and a barbecue. To the front are extensive lawns and woodland. In late January and February, the woods feature charming drifts of snowdrops followed by daffodils and in April and May the hue turns to purple with acres of bluebells. There is colour in the gardens almost all the way through the year starting with camellia during January and into March – followed with a riot of colour in April and May from the rhododendrons and azaleas – pinks, reds, creams, yellows, purples and whites. Indeed, one rhododendron, known as 'Christmas Cheer', flowers in December. The autumn sees the hydrangeas providing colour all the way through to November.
Over the past year we’ve been busy in our little corner of South West Scotland creating a host of magnificent woodland paths and coastal walks around Corsewall Estate for guests to enjoy during their stay. There are lots different options for shortening the walks or lengthening them. Many guests comment that they love the new paths as they don’t need to drive anywhere to walk – it’s just a case of stepping outside and the walks are right on their doorstep.
You’ll find masses of wildlife spotting opportunities on the walks from roe deer, red squirrels to hares and in the spring, if you listen out, the chances are you’ll hear a noisy woodpecker and the wonderful sound of a cuckoo echoing around the woods.
We’ve got lots to keep children busy on the estate. The woods immediately beside the lawns close to Corsewall House (a few minutes' walk from Home Farm Cottage) are a dedicated children’s fun zone. There is a 60 foot zip wire, which has been well tested by children (and some adults) alike! Next door, there’s also a climbing frame, which comes complete with a climbing wall, lookout house with binoculars to spot pirates/baddies, a very whizzy slide, three swings, including one for toddlers and a terrific back to back glider. Additionally, kids can bounce to their heart’s content on the 14 foot trampoline on the edge of the lawns. There’s a camp fire area in the woods – perfect for toasting marshmallows. We have a two man tent which guests can pitch in the woods so children can have an outside night adventure and get closer to the great outdoors. Finally, for smaller children, we have wendy house with a toy cooker and lots of picnic/cooking paraphernalia and a pretty veranda.
The cottage is equipped with a Smart television, Freeview Box, Roberts revival bluetooth radio and speaker, WiFi, a selection of board games, books and classic films. The beds come with super thick, feather-filled duvets, all bed linen and large fluffy towels. It also has a bean to cup coffee machine, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge, freezer, hob and electric oven. We now have a laptop friendly workspace, in the form of a stylish work desk, chair and lamp in Home Farm Cottage and Superfast Broadband too.
We provide a welcome pack for guests including a jar of incredibly edible, home-made Corsewall brownies, milk, bread, jam, butter, tea, coffee and fresh flowers from the garden (when in season). You'll find the cottage well equipped with the general basics too from washing up liquid, bin bags to washing powder and loo roll.
Home Farm Cottage has its own private garden including garden furniture and a barbecue. A cot and high chair are available on request.
Two dogs are very welcome at the cottage. We charge £25 per dog per week/£20 per dog per short break and we ask that you let us know in advance to book them in.
We have two other cottages close to Home Farm Cottage - Garden Cottage, which sleeps 6 and Stables Cottage, which sleeps 4 - so groups of up to 15 can easily be accommodated in all three houses.
